The waters around Vava'u offer prime fishing grounds for blue water, sport fishing. The type of fish you're likely to snare are yellowfin and skip jack tuna, blue fin and giant trevally, mahimahi, wahoo and blue, black and striped marlin.

An early start gives us plenty of opportunity to take in the environmental conditions and read the fish behavioural patterns. Based on this, we can either head straight out to the first of the 3 FADs (fish aggregation devices) replaced in 2008 or troll to our favourite seamount.

If the fish still aren't biting, there's always other drop offs and seamounts to explore.Tahi Pacifika's policy is to tag and release any billfish caught unless the fish is a record weight and the angler chooses to bring it in for submission purposes.
